Frequently asked questions
Short answers about rules, classes, performance, translations and removing Rateline.
Which rule applies?
The first one, from the top, whose condition and shipping class match. See How table rates work.
Can a rule check two conditions, like weight and subtotal?
One condition per rule, plus its shipping class. For "and", order the rules so the more specific comes first; for "or", add a rule for each.
Can each shipping class be priced on its own and added up?
Not in Rateline: a class rule prices the whole order. Rateline Pro, a separate paid add-on, adds pricing per shipping class and per item, conditions on the destination postcode, volume and longest side, several rates from one table, and CSV export and import. See extendiment.com/plugins/rateline.
Can I ship to some postcodes only?
Use WooCommerce's shipping zones, which can be limited to postcodes, with a Table rate in each zone. Postcode conditions on single rules are part of Rateline Pro.
Does it slow down checkout?
No noticeably. Rateline reads the cart WooCommerce already has and checks the rules in memory, with no extra database queries or requests.
Can I use it with Flat rate, Free shipping or Local pickup?
Yes. Each method in a zone gives its own rates, and customers choose between them.
Can I translate it?
Rateline's screens are translated through translate.wordpress.org, and WordPress installs the language packs for you. The names and labels you type in your rules are shown as they are; on a multilingual site, translate them with your translation plugin's string translation, if it can translate shipping method settings.
What happens to my settings if I deactivate or delete Rateline?
Deactivating never removes anything. When you click Deactivate, Rateline asks what should happen to its data if you later delete the plugin:
- Keep it (the default): your Table rate methods, settings and rules are still there if you install Rateline again.
- Delete it permanently when the plugin is deleted: the Table rate methods are removed from your shipping zones, with their settings and rules, when you delete the plugin.
Your shipping zones, other shipping methods and orders, including the shipping charged on them, are never touched.
