Frequently asked questions

Short answers about stock, performance, translations and removing Stockline.

Does Stockline change how stock works?

No. It only changes the message shoppers read. Stock levels, backorders, thresholds and whether a product can be bought are still WooCommerce's settings.

Does it slow down my store?

No noticeably. Stockline adds one small stylesheet on product pages and changes the stock line while WooCommerce builds it, with no extra database tables, requests or scripts on the storefront.

Can a product or variation have its own message?

Not in Stockline: its messages apply to the whole store. Stockline Pro, a separate paid add-on, adds a message, icon and colour per product and per variation, with a preview dialog on the product screen. See extendiment.com/plugins/stockline.

Does it show stock on shop and category pages?

No. WooCommerce doesn't show a stock line in product listings, and Stockline only changes the stock line where WooCommerce shows it.

Does it change stock emails or the admin product list?

No. Low stock and out of stock emails to you, and the Stock column in Products, are unchanged.

Can I translate the messages?

The messages are saved exactly as you type them, as WordPress options named stockline_{state}_message (for example stockline_out_of_stock_message). On a multilingual site, translate them with your translation plugin's string translation, if it can translate options.

Stockline's own screens are translated through translate.wordpress.org, and WordPress installs the language packs for you.

What happens to my settings if I deactivate or delete Stockline?

Deactivating never removes anything. When you click Deactivate, Stockline asks what should happen to its settings if you later delete the plugin:

  • Keep it (the default): everything is still there if you install Stockline again.
  • Delete it permanently when the plugin is deleted: the messages, icons, colours and style are removed when you delete the plugin.

Your products and their stock are never touched. Stockline Pro's per-product messages belong to Stockline Pro, and are kept or removed by its own prompt.
