Per-product messages

Bulk editing with Gridline

Set stock messages, icons and colours for many products and variations at once in Gridline's bulk editor.

Note

This is part of Stockline Pro.

Gridline is Extendiment's bulk product editor: your catalogue in one spreadsheet-style grid under Products → Bulk Editor. With Stockline Pro and Gridline both active, every per-product stock setting is a column there, so you can set the same message on a whole category, or check every product's messages at a glance.

Turn the columns on

The columns are hidden at first, so the grid isn't crowded. Open Screen Options at the top right of the Bulk Editor and tick the ones you need; they're in the list with Gridline's own columns. For each of the four states there are three:

  • Out of stock message, Out of stock icon, Out of stock colour
  • the same for In stock, Low stock and On backorder

Your choice of columns is remembered for you. If Stockline Pro's columns show up switched on, untick the ones you don't need. Since Gridline 1.0.1, columns that arrive with a plugin you activate later start hidden even if you had already saved your Screen Options.

Editing

The columns hold exactly what the product's Inventory tab and preview dialog hold, and an empty cell means the same thing: as the store has it (for a variation, as its product has it).

  • Message: type the text. Bold text, links and placeholders such as {qty} work as on the product screen.
  • Icon: a list of the icons, plus As the store has it to go back to inheriting, and No icon.
  • Colour: a hex code such as #cf222e, none for the theme's colour, or empty to inherit.

A colour that isn't a valid hex code, or an unknown icon, isn't saved: the cell keeps the change with the reason, and the rest of your changes save as usual.

With Gridline Pro, tick Show variations and each variation gets its own row under its product, so a variation's message is set the same way. Gridline on its own lists products only.

Setting many at once

Bulk changes come with Gridline Pro. Tick the products (and variations) to change, click Bulk edit and pick a stock message field from the Stock messages group, for example to give every product in the "Furniture" category the backorder message "Made to order, ships in 6–8 weeks". The new values show as unsaved changes first; check them, then save. If it wasn't what you wanted, Gridline Pro's History can undo the save. Without Gridline Pro, edit the cells one by one.

Tip

To clear a seasonal message from many products, bulk-set the message column to empty. They go back to the store-wide message.

Good to know

  • Grouped and external products don't show a stock line, so the columns don't apply to them.
  • The columns appear only while both Gridline and Stockline Pro are active. Without Stockline Pro, Gridline has no stock message columns.
