# Troubleshooting - Swatchline 1.x documentation

> Dropdowns that stay dropdowns, empty swatches, swatches crossed out unexpectedly, and themes or caches that get in the way.

## The product still shows a dropdown

- **The swatch type**: check the attribute under **Products → Attributes → Edit**. Dropdown is the default.
- **A custom attribute**: attributes typed on the product's Attributes tab aren't global attributes. They show as label swatches only with **Custom attributes** on in the settings.
- **Not a variation attribute**: only attributes with **Used for variations** ticked on the product have a dropdown, and so swatches.
- **The theme**: Swatchline adds its swatches where WooCommerce draws its attribute dropdowns (`wc_dropdown_variation_attribute_options()`). A theme or page builder that draws its own variation form without that function won't show them. Switch to the theme's WooCommerce template, or the Add to Cart Form or Add to Cart + Options block.
- **An add-on's type**: an attribute stored with Swatchline Pro's "Variation image" type shows a dropdown while Swatchline Pro is inactive.

## A swatch is empty (striped)

The value has no colour (for Colour swatches) or image (for Image swatches) yet. Set it under **Configure terms**: see **Colours and images**.

## Swatches are crossed out that shouldn't be

- Hover the swatch: the tooltip says whether it's **Out of stock** or **Not available with your other choices**.
- **Out of stock**: check the variation's stock under the product's **Variations** tab.
- **Not available**: there's no variation with that combination, or it has no price, or it isn't enabled. WooCommerce doesn't sell variations without a price.
- A variation set to **Any** for an attribute counts for every value of it.

## The swatches don't react, or the price doesn't change

- The swatches need JavaScript, as WooCommerce's variation form does. If a caching or optimization plugin delays or combines scripts, exclude `swatchline/assets/js/frontend.js` and WooCommerce's `add-to-cart-variation.js`, or load them early.
- Check the browser console for errors from other scripts: an error elsewhere can stop the page's scripts.

## Settings don't show on the product page

Clear your page cache after changing the settings or an attribute's type. Swatchline's styles come with a version number, but cached pages keep the old markup.

## Two sets of controls show

Something else also turns the dropdowns into swatches: another swatch plugin, or the theme. Use one of them.
